We went to see Black Hands today at Aurora Community College. It was much better than the last place we saw them because we were able to sit close to the drums and really see and hear them well. Six of our homeschool families showed up; there were 21 of us! We all got up to dance and sing with them when they invited us.
They taught us an African welcome song and a couple of the plantation spiritual songs that kept them going when they were forced to work 18 hours a day with one meal and one drink of water for the whole day! It's amazing to hear stories of how they were worked throughout the week and then were still able to praise God, revel in their families, sing & dance for hours on Sunday. It's so hard to imagine and it brings tears to my eyes every time!
