Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 39, San Francisco, California

Interesting, but GROSS!!! The Sea Lions are pretty lazy, loud, obnoxious and dirty!

Cable Cars, San Francisco, California

Of course, Noah was obsessed with these! We spent a lot of time on the cable cars! I can hardly believe we didn't make it to the cable car museum!

When the cable car gets onto this roundabout, one man pushes the car around until it's facing back the way it came. Then, the people load up and off it goes again!

Empire Mine State Historic Park, Grass Valley, California

The Empire Mine was the richest hard-rock mine in the State of California producing 5.8 million ounces of gold in its operating history of 106 years (1850-1956).

The State of California purchased Empire Mine in 1975 and turned it into The Empire Mine State Historic Park. They plan to begin construction in 2009 to make it safe enough to offer tours of the mine.

Even though they weren't doing tours of the mine when we were there, we still had a blast exploring the grounds and the cottage. There are beautiful gardens that come back every year on their own and, since there were budget cuts a few years ago, they have stayed beautiful with very little maintenance. In the gift shop, they have a great model of the mine that shows you every little detail.
